IntroductionIndicated for the treatment of patients with thrombocythemia, secondary to myeloproliferative neoplasms, to reduce the elevated platelet count and the risk of thrombosis and to ameliorate associated symptoms including thrombo-hemorrhagic events.
Warning & PrecautionsPregnancy & Breast Feeding
- During pregnancy, this medication should be used only when clearly needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
- It is unknown if this medication passes into breast milk. Because of the possible risk to the infant, breast-feeding while using this drug is not recommended. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
Driving & Using Machines
- Do not drive, use machinery, or do anything that needs alertness until you can do it safely.
How to UseTake this medication by mouth with or without food, usually 2 or 4 times a day or as directed by your doctor.
Side EffectsLike all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them
Common
- Headache
- diarrhea
- weakness
- nausea
- gas
- loss of appetite
- dizziness may occur
If any of these effects persist or worsen, contact your doctor immediately.

Stopping anagrelide will cause your platelets to go back up.
